SANTA BARBARA - The Stanford University football team has made Santa Barbara its latest home away from home this week as it prepares for a Pac-12 game against UCLA on Saturday at the Rose Bowl.
The Cardinal are staying in town and practicing at SBCC’s La Playa Stadium. Practices are closed to the public.
Stanford football became nomads since Santa Clara County issued an emergency directive on Nov. 28 due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases.
The directive prohibited contact sports through Dec. 21 and required anyone traveling outside of a 150-mile radius to quarantine for two weeks. Other college teams in the county and the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers also left the area for training and games.
Stanford has been on the road since Dec. 1. They flew to Seattle and practiced there before beating 23rd-ranked Washington, 31-26, on Dec. 5.
