MISSION VIEJO - The Saddleback baseball program was back in the news this week with the news that a former Bobcat has been making a name for himself at the next level. Former pitcher Connor Wilford was named the Pac 12 Pitcher-of-the-Week for Washington State on Monday.
Wilford had a sensational year for the Bobcats in 2022, finishing 11-2 with a 3.07 ERA. He was named to the All-Orange Empire Conference First Team after the season for his efforts. Wilford struck out a season-high nine batters on three occasions in 2022, walking just 14 batters in 96.2 innings of work.
Wilford was named the Pac 12 Pitcher-of-the-Week after his job on the mound for Washington State last week. He went 1-0 in two appearances against Oregon State with a 0.00 ERA. Wilford struck out nine batters in seven innings of work and surrendered zero hits out of the bullpen. He struck out six in four innings on Friday and then retired all nine batters in three innings of work on Sunday.
In addition to being named the Pac 12 Pitcher-of-the-Week, Wilford was named one of the National Players-of-the-Week by Collegiate Baseball.
Wilford and the Cougars won the three-game series at Oregon State, 2-1. It was the first time since 2009 that Washington State had won a series at Oregon State.
