Game 6 – Orange Coast (37-9-1) vs. El Camino (40-7) –
Orange Coast 7, El Camino 5 – The Pirates (38-9-1) used one big inning to stay alive with a 7-5 win over El Camino College on Tuesday at the 2019 California Community College Athletic Association Baseball State Championships, played at Fresno City College's John Euless Ballpark.
With the Warriors (40-8) leading, 3-2, after three innings, OCC found some offensive success off of ECC starter Max Pappas. With one out five consecutive Pirate batters reached base, highlighted by RBI-singles by Joey Fregosi and Adam Serrano. An RBI-single by Tyler Lasch capped off OCC's five-run frame, giving them a 7-3 advantage.
Reliever Kevin Ishimaru came in and walked a tightrope a few times, but wiggled out of danger during the middle innings. The freshman righty pitched 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, allowing four hits with a walk and two strikeouts.
OCC righty Ben Davis came in and maintained OCC's lead, but ECC chipped into the deficit in the bottom of the eighth when Joey Granillo walked and scored on a run-scoring triple by Spencer Palmer. Joseph Borges followed with a sacrifice fly to right to bring the Warriors to within a pair at 7-5.
ECC reliever Garrett Spicuzza pitched 5 2/3 innings of scoreless relief for the Warriors to keep his team in the game. He allowed five hits with one strikeout.
Davis Delorefice stepped in to pitch the bottom of the ninth and with the tying runs on base, he struck out three to collect his sixth save of the season.
Serrano finished with three hits, a run scored and two RBI for the Pirates, while Tommy Williams added two hits, reached base four times and scored once.
For the Warriors, Jerry Granillo went 3-for-3 with three runs, while Palmer added two hits and two runs.
