Baseball Beats West L.A. in Western State Conference Opener

VALLEY VILLAGE - Monarchs Baseball opened Western State Conference play with an 8-0 shutout win over West L.A.

Daniel Tovar (pictured) was a stud on the mound throwing six innings, giving up just one hit and striking out seven to get the win for the Monarchs.

Offensively the Monarchs were on the board early after Sean David singled with the bases loaded to put Valley up 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning.  Elvis Park followed David with a bases loaded walk, forcing in the second run for the Monarchs.  After a few scoreless innings, the Monarchs broke the game open in the fifth inning.  Luis Torres began the fifth with a single through the left side of the infield.  Royce Clayton, Jr. followed with a sweet bunt, which resulted in a hit.  On the same play, West L.A. made two errors leading to Torres scoring and Clayton, Jr. reaching third base.  Tyler Olivas promptly hit him in with another single through the left side.  After a Bobby Velasco walk and Will White sacrifice bunt, David came up and doubled to left center, scoring Velasco and Max Aude.  After the fifth inning, the Monarchs were up 6-0 and never looked back.

Royce Clayton, Jr. was 2-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Sean David was 2-4 with the previously mentioned double and finished the game with a team leading three RBIs.

The Monarchs travel to West L.A. on Thursday, March 9 at 2:00 p.m. and will finish the West L.A. series on Saturday, March 11 at 1:00 p.m. at Valley.
