W. WATER POLO: HORNETS SWARM TO 1ST PLACE

The Fullerton Hornets Women's water polo defeated Orange Coast Pirates 6-11 at home Wednesday evening.

The Pirates scored first, but freshman Neida Torres responded with her first of fours goals of the day.

After allowing an early goal, the Hornets defense swarmed the Pirates allowing just 2 shots on goal in the first half.

Sophomore Charley Jackson scored her first of two goals before the end of the 2nd period giving the Hornets a 1-5 lead entering the half.

Coming out of the half, the Pirates exploded offensively with 4 unanswered goals to tie the game at 5 apiece.

The Hornets responded with three straight goals to reclaim a three-goal lead 5-8 at the end of three periods.

As the fourth period began the Pirates once again scored first closing the gap 6-8.

Once again, the Hornets defense responded by shutting down the Pirates and not allowing another goal.

Torres sealed the victory for the Hornets with two straight goals to end the game.

Nieda Torres led the way with 4 goals, Charley Jackson and Adrianna Wong both had two goals apiece.

Julissa Vasquez led the defense with 3 steals Charley Jackson and Tarsis ledezma both finished with 2 goals.

The Hornets look strong with eight games left on the season. With one conference game against Cypress coming up, FC then battles it out in the OEC tournament to claim its fourth OEC title.
