Kreowski's Record Day Leads Poloists In the Central Coast Classic

Cuesta Women's Water Polo opened their Central Coast Classic with a pair of wins over Diablo Valley, 20-15, and Western State Conference rival Santa Monica, 16-4.   In the tournament opener, the Cougars and Vikings began the contest with a pair of offensive haymakers.  The Cougars came out swinging with six goals in the first five minutes, while the visiting Vikings went on the attack with five goals of their own.  The Cougars one-two punch from returners Anna Kreowski and Chloe Porter eventually proved too much for DVC.  Kreowksi set a new Cuesta single-game record with nine goals in the game, while Porter added six of her own.  The previous record of eight was set by both Ashley De Goede and Whitney Levicki at the Diablo Valley Tournament in 2006 and tied six times over the past 17 seasons, including thrice by current Head Coach Rachel Gruetzmacher.  In the nightcap, the Cougars made quick work of WSC foe Santa Monica.  Cuesta opened an 11-0 lead before the half and cruised to victory, while Porter and Goalie Hanna Bonham swapped positions.  Bonham ended the game with six saves and added a pair of goals on offense, while Porter tallied the first goal of the contest, before grabbing a pair of saves between the pipes.  Kreowski led all scorers with a hat trick and currently leads the State with 14 goals over the first week of the season.  Cuesta is 2-1 on the season.

Cuesta opens the second day of the Central Coast Classic at the crack of dawn against Merced at 7 AM.  The Cougars will close the event against Modesto at 3:40.
