BASEBALL: NO SUNSHINE FOR HORNETS

The Hornets played well on Thursday at home against Santa Ana College, but they did not have enough in the tank losing to the Dons 2-1.

It was a dark cloudy day, and Fullerton desperately needed a ray of sunshine or a win after losing to Santa Ana 8-3 on Tuesday. They got neither.

The game was a pitcher's duel through the first four innings between SAC's Knolton Clark and FC's Justin Schubert. With two outs in the top of the fifth, back-to-back doubles scored the game's first run for Santa Ana. James Williams hit a hard shot that was lost in the left field ivy for a ground-rule double, and then Nick Lopez doubled off the right field ivy scoring Williams.

The Hornets answered back in the bottom fifth on an infield error scoring Matt Dorado. FC had a chance to break the game open loading the bases with one out, but unfortunately it was not in the cards as Santa Ana reliever Shane Carey came in and finished the side.

A hard-hit liner by Nick Lopez sailed over the right field ivy in the seventh put SAC up for good 2-1.

Fullerton had opportunities in the eighth and ninth innings putting runners in scoring position, but they could not bring them across home plate. In all, 9 runners were left on base.

FC starting pitcher Shubert threw a solid game going 6.2 innings with 4 K's, 2 earned runs, 2 walks, and 6 hits against. Anthony Diaz came in to pitch 2.1 innings of 1-hit baseball with a walk and a strikeout.

Up Next: Fullerton (1-5 overall, 1-4 OEC) travels to Santa Ana College for a doubleheader this Friday, April 23rd. Game times are at 12:00 pm and 3:00 pm.
