(Santa Barbara, CA) Just as the Mt. SAC Beach Volleyball did in 2018, Santa Barbara City College began its inaugural season in 2019 Friday (3/10), but fell to the Mounties, 5-0 in a nonconference match at East Beach.
The match is the first of three for the Mounties over the weekend, as they continue North and will play two on Saturday (3/2) against host Gavilan College (Gilroy) and Foothill College.
Mt. SAC (4-1) swept all four of the pairs matches played in two sets each.
The match started with a forfeit, as the Vaqueros couldn't field a No. 5 team.
The Mt. SAC No. 3 pair of Lindsey Lane/Alysha Tullar was victorious, 21-10, 21-14, for the 2-0 lead in the best of five matches. The match was significant for SBCC, as it was the first-ever women's intercollegiate match at East Beach.
The 4's pair of Macy Barnes/Jessica Morse clinched the match for Mt. SAC with a 21-12, 21-11 victory and the 3-0 lead.
The Mt. SAC No. 1 pair of Juliana Gomez/Samantha Neely trailed SBCC, 8-6 in the first set, but went on a 12-7 run to eventually win 21-16. In the second set, Gomez/Neely led 8-2 and went on to a 21-11 win.
Mt. SAC's No. 2's, Malia Carr/Shaiann Palos, won the first set, 21-16, but trailed 9-6 in the second and were tied 18-18. They finished off the match with three straight points for the 21-18 victory.
The Mounties next match when they return is a three-way at El Camino College Friday (3/8) against Ventura, Pasadena Club and host El Camino.
