Falcons ride big 3rd inning to 9-1 win over Delta

The Folsom Lake softball team broke open a close game on Tuesday afternoon with an eight-run third inning and cruised home with a five-inning, 9-1 victory over Delta at Falcon Diamond.  The Falcons lit up the scoreboard in the third with five hits, a walk, a hit batter, and two errors before the final out was made, turning a tight 1-0 lead into a 9-0 blowout.  Lilly Alvarez delivered the big blow, a two-out, two-run double down the left field line that made it 7-0.  Right fielder Mikaela Pamplona hit a booming double early in the inning to drive in the first run and finished with three hits on the day.  Centerfielder Olivia Dominguez collected two more hits to raise her team-leading batting average to .451 .  Alvarez' double was her 8th of the season and raised her RBI total to 17.  She also pitched a three-hit gem - without issuing a walk - to get her fifth victory of the season.

The Falcons (11-6 overall, 3-1 in Big 8) will face Big 8 leader Cosumnes River (11-6, 5-0 in Big 8) in a doubleheader at CRC on Saturday.
