Baseball Drops Series Opener Against Oxnard

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College baseball team fell in the series opener against Oxnard College, 13-11, at home on Tuesday afternoon. | BOX SCORE

The Bulldogs (11-7, 3-4 WSC) came out hot in the opening inning after a grand slam from Parker Haskell gave the home squad a 4-0 advantage. Oxnard (3-15, 1-6 WSC) responded with a fourth-inning surge after rattling off six runs, but a sacrifice fly from Evan Steinberger and a pair of runners who scored on wild pitchers put Hancock back on top at the end of the frame. Calen Dalman added to the cushion during the next inning with an RBI double through the right side that scored one.

The Condors got even with one run in the sixth and another in the eighth before a pair of RBIs from Haskell and Jacob Ruley stretch the difference back out to two. The visitors got hot in the final inning and regained the lead after a five-run effort in the ninth. Vander Hodges managed to drive in one run in the bottom of the frame, but the Bulldogs were unable to complete the comeback.

Bradley Waite was charged with the loss on the bump after surrendering five earned runs on five hits through one inning. Isaac Baez earned the start but did not factor into the final decision after three innings of work. Lucas Earle, Anthony Lopez, and Vance Serrano also made appearances on the mound.

The Bulldogs will travel to Oxnard on Thursday, March 10th, for game two of the three-game series.
