Down 2-0, Hawks Storm Back Beat Folsom on the Road

Folsom, CA - Cosumnes River College (8-4) traveled up the freeway to take on Folsom Lake College (6-7). Looking to get back on track after a defeat at home, the Hawks started slowly going down 0-2 against Folsom before regrouping to take the 5-set victory (17-25, 21-25, 25-15, 26-24, 15-11). The offense started slowly with hitting percentages of .034 and .186 before waking up to hit .353 in the third set. Freshman, Aija Redding, paced the Hawks with 11 kills along with 14 digs. Miah Williamson (9 kills), Micah Stinson(8 kills), Maddy Motta (7 kills) and Maram Mahfouz (7 kills) carried the offense for the Hawks. Grace Maddock picked up another double-double with 19 assists and 12 digs, foiling the Falcons' plans to take her out of play. Sophomore Giovanna Parino continued her strong play with 20 assists, 2 kills, and falling one dig shy of a double-double effort. 

Serving, and defense made the difference in the game tonight. Cosumnes River College combined for 15 service aces, 97 digs and 17 blocks (3 solo, 14 assisted). A pair of Hawks, Reese Werner and Aija Redding, had 4 service aces apiece. Miah Williamson added 3 more aces to help keep her as one of the top servers in the state. Grace Maddock also added 3 service aces of her own including the set-ending ace in set 3 that helped the Hawks carry the momentum through the rest of the game. Four Hawks tallied double-digits in digs during the five-set match. Reese Werner (14 digs), Grace Maddock (12 digs) and Aija Redding (14 digs) helped set the tone on the defensive end. Not to be outshined, Freshman Libero Victoria Espinoza tallied 35 digs to lead the Hawk defense! Miah Williamson was a wall up front, tallying 3 solo blocks and 3 assisted blocks. Micah Stinson and Maram Mahfouz both tallied 4 assisted blocks to help defense the Falcon's attack.
