Cypress Remains Undefeated in OEC

CYPRESS, CA- Charger softball (14-2, 6-0 OEC) earned their six conference win with victory over Orange Coast College (6-8, 3-3 OEC) on Wednesday afternoon, 8-2.

On a cloudy day at Cypress College the Pirates visited the Chargers for a conference face-off. After a quiet first inning, the visiting team managed to tally a run in the second frame. With two outs, Orange Coast attempted a drag bunt with a runner on third. An error on the play allowed a run to score and gave the Pirates the early lead.

In the fourth, the home team was able to break through on the scoreboard and exploded for five runs. A Jolee Rodriguez single created a second and third opportunity for Cameron Curiel. In her appearance, she grounded out on a fielder's choice that had the first run for the Chargers touch home plate. A batter later, Lizbeth Gomez hit in Camryn Addimando to help Cypress go on top for the first time.

Later in the inning, the Chargers took advantage of an error and scored a run from the base paths. With a runner on third, Ashlynn Ortiz rocketed the ball over the left field wall to add insurance runs for the home team, 5-1. The next inning, Cypress continued the offensive pressure.

Curiel broke it open with a hard comebacker to the pitcher that bounced around the infield and allowed Haley Martinez to cross home. After two batters, a first and third base running play led to a Pirate error and a run for Cypress. With Gomez in scoring position, Mikala Jacobsen knocked a base hit to give the Chargers a seven run edge.

Though the home team allowed a run in the final frame, the game ended 8-2 for Cypress's six conference win. At the plate, Jacobsen was the only Charger to have a multi-hit game with her 2-3 day, RBI and a run scored. Curiel earned two RBIs with a hit and run scored. Ortiz was also responsible for two RBIs with her two-run home run. Emily Rush pitched the entire game on the mound for Cypress as she only allowed one earned run and five hits. With the win, the Chargers are on their eigth consecutive win and are undefeated in conference play.
