Softball Picks Up Run-Rule Victory Over Pierce, 14-0

Cuesta's Softballers improved to 4-2 in the Western State Conference and evened their overall record at 10-10 with a dominating win over Los Angeles Pierce, 14-0.  The Cougars opened the game with two runs in their first at bat, but then went scoreless until the bottom of the 3rd inning, when they put the game away.  The wheels came off for the Brahmas when the Cougars pounded out a season-high 11 runs in the frame.  Pierce committed two errors, which led to five unearned runs, however the Cougars also added another six runs on their own thanks to nine hits in the frame.  By the time the Cougars were done they led 13-0 but added one more in the 4th inning to lead 14-0.  The 5th and final inning were more of a formality, as Cuesta Starter Idalia Lopez faced only four batters to close out her shutout.  In all, Lopez authored a five-inning, complete game shutout, while facing only two batters over the minimum.  Lopez improved to 2-1 on the season and dropped her ERA to a staff-leading 3.37.  Designated Player Shayla Bautista was one of three Cougars that collected a game-high two hits, while also scoring twice and driving in three runs to lead the offense.

Softball is set to host San Bernardino Valley on Saturday (1/3 PM) for a non-conference doubleheader.
