Men's Soccer blanks Compton, clashes with Rio Hondo for division title next

(Walnut, CA) After losing its first conference game of the season on Tuesday, the Mt. SAC Men's Soccer team (12-2-1, 6-1-1) bounced back with a resounding 6-0 South Coast Conference victory over Compton (2-12-3, 0-7-1) on Friday.

Edward Castro led the Mounties with a pair of goals on assists from Roberto Mejia and Matt Palos, while teammate Eddie Cabrera had two assists on goals by Alex Mendez and Uly Perez. Cabrera also scored an unassisted goal to account for the team's first score of the game. Mejia also had two assists, the second on a score by Giovanni Gloria.

The goalkeeping duo of Ryan Molina-Castillo (20 minutes, two saves) and Jacob Cardenas (70 minutes, three saves) combined to keep the visiting Tartars scoreless.

With a slim lead over Rio Hondo (11-2-4, 5-1-2) in the SCC North standings heading into the final regular-season game, Mt. SAC will travel to Whittier to take on the Roadrunners for the division title on Tuesday, Nov. 2, at 2 p.m.
