Hawks Defend Their Nest, Go 2-0 At Home

Sacramento, CA - After starting off their season with 6 games on the road, Cosumnes River College returned home eager to play on their home court. Welcoming in Alameda College (1-4) and College of Marin (2-4) the Hawks were able to defend their Nest in convincing fashion. Starting at 2:00 pm, CRC took on their first opponent in the Alameda College Cougars. The Hawks asserted their dominance taking the match 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-11). The offense combined for 31 kills, 31 assists, and 11 service aces. Miah Williamson set the tone for the offense by hitting .333 resulting in 9 kills. Teammates Kaley Dosier (7 kills) and Deziree McKee (6 kills, .312 hit percentage) also helped set the tone for the Hawk offense. Setter Giovanna Parino assisted on 29 of the 31kills for Cosumnes River. Isabella Bugarin (4 aces) showed that you don't have to be a front row hitter in order to earn points for your team. Ainsley Beckman (2 aces) and Giovanna Parino (2 aces) also helped keep the Cougar offense off balance with tough serves all match long. When the Cougars were on the offensive the Hawks defense stood strong with 47 digs, 13 of which came from Abigail Hicks

The second match of the day saw the Hawks take on the College of Marin Mariners. After a tight first set loss (24-26), Cosumnes River was able to regroup and take the next three sets (31-29, 25-23, 26-24). The offense combined for 51 kills, 46 assists, and 15 service aces. Deziree McKee, a Sophomore from Franklin High School, lead the offensibe with 17 kills on 34 swings, a .382 kill percentage. Not to be outdone, Freshman Miah Williamson had 14 kills on 25 swings, a .360 kill percentage. After totaling 31 assists in the first game of the night, Setter Giovanna Parino increased her total with 44 assists against Marin. Isabella Bugarin, a Freshman Defensive Specialist, kept Marin's offense off balance with 6 aces. Anna Thomas contributed 3 service aces to the Hawk total. The defense worked hard and continued to be a strength for the Hawks all season long. In the match vs Marin, Cosumnes River College totalled 73 aces and 8 block (6 solo). Isabella Bugarin (13) and Giovanna Parino (11) posted double digit dig totals. Abby Hicks, a Sophomore, continued to lead the defense with 22 digs, increasing her season total to 165. 

Up Next - The Hawks will have one day of practice to prepare for Fridays double header at home. Cosumnes River College (4-4) will host visiting Shasta College (4-5) with game time starting at 1:00 pm. After that game, CRC will have a break before taking on Taft College (1-7) at 5:00 pm. Both games will be held in the Community Athletic Center Main Gym on Clark Court. These will be the last home preseason games that CRC will host before going back on the road to end their preseason.
