COACHES CORNER RIVERSIDE COLLEGE:

After week 8 the JAGS have posted an 5-3 record on the season.  Beyond our opening season loss to neighbor SD Mesa our other two losses were to the number 2 and number 3 teams in the state.  It has been a great opportunity to play the best and evaluate our program against the best.  We beat top 5 ranked Fullerton, lost to #3 Saddleback in a game that was tough to work with.  Our final loss of the season was last week to Riverside the #2 team in the state.  We led the game at halftime 12-7 but it wouldn't hold up as the Tigers moved out to a 34-12 win.

OFFENSE
:  The offense was paced by Davion Johnson WR.  Johnson led the JAGS with 10 catches including a TD.  Soph QB Josh Owen threw two TD passes and led the team by tempo.  Freshman WR Tyler Saikhon (Southwest IV) caught the first TD of the night.

DEFENSE:  The defense did a fantastic job of keeping the Tigers off balance with a mixture of zone and man in the secondary.  Sophomore DB Atoatasi Fox (Bonita Vista) once again was named the defensive player of the game.  Sophomore  DT Andrew Schasa (Lincoln) dominated the interior run game.

KICKING GAME:   We played field position football focusing on placement.  Fellow freshmen Justin McElligott from (Granite Hills) and Cesar Macias (Mar Vista) did the work.

COACHES CORNER WEEK ONE AND TWO:

After two weeks of the 2019 season the JAG football team stands a 1-1.  We suffered a game one loss to neighbor Mesa College 14-4…. Yes it's not a typo 14 to 4.  In the middle of the fourth quarter the score was 7 to 4.  Our defense had a great night.  Returning starter Andrew Schasa (Lincoln HS) was the defensive player of the game.  The offense struggled to find itself throughout the game.  This past week the JAGS bounced back with a 28-24 win over North County Palomar College.  The score was identical to our Beach Bowl win over Palomar a year ago.

The offense moved the ball well with QB Joshua Owen (Midway HS Waco Texas) throwing for one TD and rushing for another.  The top two WR 's for the JAGS were Tyler Saikon (Southwest HS, El Centro) and Terry Wright (Saint Augustine HS).  On the OL freshman Left Tackle Flavio Gonzalez (Casa Grande HS, AZ) made huge strides.

The kicking game was outstanding against Palomar… a total turn around from game one.  De'Aundre Cruz (Guam) blocked a punt and carried it in for a score.  Both punters Cesar Macias (Mara Vista HS) and Justin McElligott (Granite Hills HS) dominated field position.  Macias had a game clinching punt that put Palomar on the one yard line on their final drive.

ON TO VICTOR VALLEY THIS WEEKEND!
