SHASTA SPLITS WITH ARC, GOES 1-2 ON WEEK

REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College's baseball team split a home-and-home series against American River last week and lost to Sierra to go 1-2 on the week.

Knights' sophomore Derek Ray was 4 for 9 with two homers, five RBIs and two runs on the week to lead the Shasta offense.

Shasta 12, American River 10
The Knights scored 11 of their 12 runs in the first four innings and held on for the victory. Ray had a pair of home runs on his day, going 2 for 4 with five RBIs. Nicholas Newton was 3 for 5 with a run, Giacomo Crosetti was 2 for 5 with a double, an RBI and three runs, Jaden Gorge was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, and Max Nebel was 1 for 4 with a double, two stolen bases and two runs. Julian Esqueda was the winning pitcher, allowing one run in 1.2 innings. Kaden Nicholas allowed one run on three hits in four innings of relief and earned the save.

Sierra 15, Shasta 4
Nebel was 2 for 4 with an RBI double, Chris Jacobsen was 2 for 3 with a double and Stephen Nelson hit an RBI double. Nebel started on the mound and gave up three earned runs on three hits in three innings. Four of the five Shasta pitchers gave up a run in the game.

American River 5, Shasta 4
Hayden Boyes' RBI groundout in the bottom of the eighth tied it at 4 but the Knights surrendered an infield sacrifice in the top of the ninth to lose to the Beavers at home. Payton Jeffries lasted five innings and gave up three runs on five hits while walking three and striking out three to earn a no decision. Tysson Unciano gave up one run on four hits in three innings of relief. Gorge was 2 for 5 with an RBI, Boyes was 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles and a stolen base, Mario Hernandez hit a two-run double and Ray scored twice and stole a base.

Shasta (2-3) plays a three-game road series against Skyline starting Thursday.
