BAKERSFIELD, CA – Offense is their game and defense is the name for the Bakersfield College women's volleyball team who kept momentum and pace from the 2-game win streak despite having to regenerate the same energy from the first couple of games of the season. The Renegades swept College of Sequoias in a battle of the valley.

"Every opportunity it a different challenge…Saturday we came off a lot of excitement and after coming off a real high you always have to go through hills and valleys. I thought COS did some outstanding things which force us to adapt in the middle of the match. Overall our players adapted well," said head coach Carl Ferreira.

The 'Gades and the Giants jumped out on the court taking turns scoring points off each other until Bakersfield would grab a hold of the lead and take off running. At the first timeout BC led 14-9 and extended their lead to take the set 25-13.

Slower pace for set 2 as College of Sequoias would come out stronger taking a 3-0 lead before BC gained a point. 'Gades fought back and tied the game twice to take the lead 11-5 at timeout. However, the Giants were not ready to give up the set that easy and were able to come behind at 3 points. Bakersfield would end Sequoias run by tapping the ball in the left corner, 25-21.

Bakersfield led the entire third set. COS did not let trailing behind keep them from going on a 6-3 run before taking a much-needed timeout for both teams. The 'Gades would regain strength and close out the match with the Giant's serving out of bounds, 25-19.

Freshman Francesca Hernandez would end the game at an outstanding 20 digs while Sophia Palm would assist the Renegades with 14. Outside hitter, Penelope Zepeda completed the match with 10 kills.

Bakersfield College will begin road matches on Friday, September 6th in Santa Barbara playing against Santa Barbara City College at 6pm.
