GLENDORA — College of the Canyons traveled to face off with Citrus College on Tuesday, claiming a 4-1 conference victory over the Owls.

COC pitcher Allyson Melgar led the Cougars (18-10-1, 4-3) to the win giving up only one run in the first inning. She scattered four hits, with one walk and two strikeouts.

Melgar also used her bat in the second inning, when she homered tying the game at 1-1. She now leads COC with four home runs on the season. Freshman Catcher Lisa Motz trails Melgar with three homers.

In the fifth, a passed ball enabled Vanessa Reyes to push across the go-ahead run at 2-1.

The Cougars tacked on two more runs when Motz singled, sending Brianne Tall and Melgar home for the eventual 4-1 victory.

Melgar's dominant performance from the circle earned her the win.
