Women’s Basketball: Rio Hondo rolls to 66-46 win over Chaffey

Amanda Lee scored a team-high 15 points, Candace Black poured in 14 points, and Amy Navarro added 13 points to help lead Rio Hondo College to a 66-46 win over visiting Chaffey College on Wednesday night in a South Coast Conference North Division game.

The victory snapped the Roadrunners' two-game losing streak and improved their record to 14-9 overall and 1-2 in SCC North play.

Rio Hondo was able to overcome a slow start before cruising to the win. The Roadrunners were down early, trailing 7-2 before putting together a 15-3 run to jump ahead for good. Rio Hondo was up 20-14 after the first quarter and held a commanding 40-24 lead at halftime.

The Roadrunners outrebounded Chaffey (5-14, 0-4 SCC) by a 49-38 margin and forced 14 turnovers.

Lee added five rebounds and four assists to her team-high scoring. Black led Rio Hondo with eight rebounds, while Kailey Gutierrez chipped in with seven points, six rebounds, and three assists.

The Roadrunners will look to keep the winning momentum going on Friday (Feb. 1) when they host East Los Angeles College in a 7 p.m. SCC North Division game.
