2-run error leads to Falcon loss

A first-inning throwing error that led to two Modesto runs was all the visiting Pirates needed as they held on to defeat the Falcons, 2-1, at Falcon Diamond on Tuesday night.  Modesto's CJ Baxter kept the Falcon hitters off-balance most of the night and pitched a complete game to earn the win.  Sophomore shortstop Hannah Dominguez scored the Falcons' only run on some heads-up baserunning in the fourth inning, but that would be the lone offensive highlight for the Falcons.  Dominguez and third baseman Lauren Martinez provided several defensive highlights that kept their team in the game, but the Falcon bats were relatively silent most of the night.  Lilly Alvarez pitched well enough to win (0 earned runs over seven innings) but was victimized by one throwing error.

The Falcons (15-10 overall, 7-5 in Big 8) will need to put this one behind them before they head to Sacramento City College (15-10-1 overall, 6-4 Big 8) for Saturday's doubleheader.
