Cosumnes River and Folsom Lake met for a rematch on Saturday afternoon with freshman righty Gabe Emmett starting for the Falcons. Emmett was mostly sharp in his debut except for a bad spell in the second inning when he walked two and hit a batter, which translated to an unearned run.
After CRC scored in the fifth, the Falcons tied the score at 2-2 on a wild pitch and an Austin Caveness RBI single. In the sixth, a three-run homer and a bases loaded walk made it 6-2 Hawks. But the Falcons responded with three runs of their own, all without benefit of a hit, to make it 6-5. From there it was all Hawks, as they scored 3 runs in the seventh and shut out the Falcons over the final three innings to win 9-5.
The final box score tells the real story: Falcon pitchers issued 12 walks and hit 4 batters; seven of those scored for the Hawks.
The Falcons will next play a two-game set at Sac City on Friday and Saturday.
