Vikings fall to Lobos in tight Coast Conference match

The West Valley tennis team took Monterey Peninsula down to the wire before falling 6-3 to the Lobos Tuesday in Saratoga.
 
The Vikings (2-3, 0-2 Coast) trailed MPC (1-1, 1-1 Coast) 4-3 after WVC's Olivia Ocher knocked off MPC's Athena Landeros in straight sets in the their #4 singles match.
 
MPC's Morgan Johnson stopped WVC's Abigail Salazar in a tense three-set #5 singles contest to clinch the overall match for the Lobos. West Valley's Katie Watts and MPC's Cecilia Flores took their 3's match to a deciding third set in which Flores prevailed 6-3.
 
Earlier, in doubles, West Valley's #1 team of Jane Liddle and Ocher fell 8-2 to Monterey's Genesis Holizan and Olivia Rhodes, and MPC's Flores and Johnson held off WVC's Watts and Salazar 8-4. The Viking #3 team of Sovanny Thach and June Li won by forfeit.
 
Liddle lost to Holizan in the #1 singles match, while Thach lost to Rhodes in the 2's. WVC's Arlenne Quinones took the #6 singles by forfeit.
 
West Valley heads to City College of San Francisco Friday (2/21) for a 2pm match against the Rams.
