Big Inning Dooms Beavers Again

Big Inning Dooms Beavers Again

Despite a gritty effort on the mound by freshman Wyatt Bahlke (Woodcreek) who didn't know that he would be pitching until about 15 minutes before game time, the American River College baseball team could not hold down the Delta College Mustangs.  Bahlke was thrust into the starter role when RHP Matt Kelly (Oak Hills) couldn't go because of an arm issue.  Bahlke gave up two in the first inning on just one hit and two in the second inning on 2 hits.  He settled down in the 3rd and 4th, holding the Mustangs scoreless.  Delta managed to score 6 times in the 5th inning however after a one out line drive to left field was misplayed by freshman Christian Restori (Whitney).  The next batter doubled to score one to put Delta up 5-0.  Sophomore Josh Heinkel (Inderkum) came on in relief but he walked the first batter he faced, then allowed two straight hits.  Sophomore Christian Lucero (River City) came on and got a groundout on the first pitch but that also plated a run for Delta.  The next batter doubled to put Delta up 10-0.  Lucero finished the 5th and retired Delta in order in the 6th inning.  Freshman Danny Valenze (Whitney) came on in the 7th and 8th and faced just seven batters over the 2 innings.

Offensively the Beavers couldn't get anything going off of Delta's starting pitcher, David Rodriguez.  ARC managed just one hit over 6 innings.  When he came out though the Beavers got three straight doubles to put a couple of runs on the board.  Freshman 2B Rylon Druck (Roseville) had one of the double and he had three of ARC's 5 hits on the day.

The teams will try to finish their series on Thursday before the rain, starting at 10 AM at Beaver Field.  Admission will be free.
