VICTORY OVER THE VIKINGS

The FC baseball team welcomed Long Beach City College to Hornet Field on Saturday and defeated the Vikings 11-2.

Long Beach took an early lead scoring its only two runs in the second inning. Xander McLaurin popped a single through the left side scoring Evan Vazquez. Danny Rodriguez singled to right center giving McLaurin the chance to come home.

Quiet in the third inning, the Hornet offense came to life scoring runs in every inning totaling 11 runs. Compiling 14 hits on the day, FC scored 2 runs in the fourth, 2 in the fifth, 3 in the sixth, 1 in the seventh, and 2 in the eighth. Diego Franco was 3 for 5 on the day with a run scored and 3 RBI. Kaipo Haloe was 3 for 4 (a triple) with a run and 3 RBI. Britton Beeson had 2 hits (a double), a run, and 2 RBI, Jimmy Blumberg had 2 hits, 2 runs, and 1 RBI. 

Defensively, FC was stout after giving up the first two runs holding the Vikings scoreless after the second inning. Earning his second win on the season, Masen McConnell (2-0) went 5 innings allowing 5 hits, 2 runs, a walk, and had 1 strikeout. Matt Romero tossed a solid game in 3 innings of relief with 3 hits against, 0 walks, 0 runs, and 3 strikeouts. Joe Linehan came in for the final inning with a hit against, 0 walks, and a strikeout.

Up Next: The Hornets (7-2 overall) will travel to Golden West College on Tuesday, February 14th. The first pitch goes out at 1:00 pm.
