SHASTA SPLITS SIX GAMES ON WEEK

REDDING, Calif. – The Shasta College softball team went 3-3 on the week, splitting a Golden Valley Conference doubleheader at College of the Siskiyous with a 5-4 loss and a 12-7 win, sweeping Yuba College 17-7 and 3-0 and losing a home doubleheader to Butte College 2-1 and 8-0.

Siskiyous 5, Shasta 4
The Knights allowed two runs in the bottom of the sixth to fall on the road. Cora Peterson was 2 for 4 with two RBIs, Kiley Wendt and Macey Bunn each had a hit and scored a run and Whitney Carnes drove in a run. Carnes struck out seven, walked one and allowed five runs on 10 hits in the complete-game loss.

Shasta 12, Siskiyous 7
The Knight scored in each of the first six innings and racked up 13 hits. Peterson was 3 for 5 with an RBI and a run, Bunn was 3 for 4 with a double, four RBIs and two runs, Autumn Campbell was 2 for 4 with three runs, Carnes was 2 for 5 with an RBI and a run and Autumn Tenney scored twice. Carnes struck out four, walked one and allowed four runs – one earned – one five hits in three innings. Peterson gave up three runs – one earned – on two hits in four innings.

Shasta 17, Yuba 7 (5)
The Knights scored a season-high 17 runs, including a 10-run third inning. Campbell was 3 for 3 with a double, an RBI and four runs, Carnes was 3 for 4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs, Bunn was 2 for 4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs, Khloe Forrister and Riley Horton each drove in two runs and Wendt drove in three runs and scored three times. Peterson gave up seven runs on 14 hits to earn the five-inning complete-game victory.

Shasta 3, Yuba 0
Carnes and Peterson combined to throw a three-hit shutout in the win. Carnes struck out three and walked one while tossing three hitless frames. Peterson struck out one and walked none while allowing three hits in four scoreless innings. Two of Shasta's three hits came from Horton and Bunn was 1 for 2 with a pair of RBIs.

Butte 2, Shasta 1
Butte scored on a two-run homer in the third and Shasta's lone run came from Bunn's RBI groundout in the bottom half of the frame. Carnes struck out five, walked five and allowed two runs on four hits. Campbell was 2 for 3 with a double and a run, Peterson was 2 for 2 and Horton and Tenney each had a hit.

Butte 8, Shasta 0 (5)
The Roadrunners put up a seven-run second inning to pull away. Forrister was 2 for 2 with a double and Shasta's other hit came from Tenney. Carnes gave up four earned runs on three hits in 1.1 innings to take the loss and Peterson gave up one earned run on five hits in 3.2 innings of relief.
