Cuesta Baseball completed a three-game sweep of Western State Conference foe Los Angeles Pierce, 9-1, and reached .500 for the first time since the second day of the season. The Cougars beat the Brahmas in SLO on Tuesday, 10-7, and in Woodland Hills on Thursday, 6-0, before returning home for today's game. Starting Pitcher Nico Martinez (pict) was masterful during his seven innings of work. Martinez allowed a leadoff single in the first inning, but then faced the minimum by recording 21 outs from the next 21 Brahmas he faced, including 20 in a row. Martinez handed a six-run lead the bullpen and Relivers Kade Walker and Josh Souza each authored a scoreless frame to close the game. On Offense, Designated Hitter Kirk Woolf (pict) went 3-for-5, with two runs scored and one driven in, to lead the offense. Woolf was one of six Cuesta Batsmen to enjoy a multi-hit game as the Cougars' offense was solid all the way through the line-up. Eight of the Cougars' nine starters scored or drove in a run against the Brahmas. Woolf, who missed the first 14 games of the season, currently leads the squad with a .452 average and is second on the team with seven extra-base hits, including a Double today. The victory improved the Cougars overall record to 11-11 and moved them into first place in the WSC Standings with a 7-2 record against the circuit.
The Cougars play another three-game WSC series next week against Moorpark. The Cougars shall host the Raiders on Tuesday (2:30) and Saturday (1 PM) and play in Moorpark on Thursday (2:30).
