Softball Splits with LA Mission at Home

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College softball team split in a doubleheader showing against LA Mission College at home on Saturday afternoon. 

The Bulldogs now hold an overall record of 16-12 on the season while Mission moves to 18-15 thus far. Hancock will be back in action on Wednesday, April 13th, at home against Oxnard College for a rain make-up contest. The first pitch is set for 11 AM on the AHC Softball Field. 


GAME ONE: ALLAN HANCOCK - 7, LA MISSION - 3 | BOX SCORE

The Eagles struck first in game one after plating one run in the first inning and adding a second in the third frame. Mya Mendoza drove in the first run for the Bulldogs with a single through the left side in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit, but LA Mission managed to tack on one more in the fourth. Bats got hot for the home squad in the bottom of the sixth with a six-run showing to cap off the comeback effort. Ehsya Glidewell opened the inning with an RBI double down the left field line before Carlissa Solorio's sacrifice fly plated another in the next at-bat to the tie the contest. Lisette Coria registered the game-winning run after Briana Munoz was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, while Madison Gamble closed the scoring by driving in three runs with a double through the right side.

Abigail Salazar, Xchelle Glidewell, and Mendoza finished the game with two hits apiece and combined for six of the team's 10 knocks. Salazar also collected a pair of stolen bases while Mendoza took one.

X. Glidewell (8-3) earned the win in the circle after twirling for 6.2 innings. She struck out two batters and allowed two earned runs on seven hits. Munoz made a brief appearance for the final two batters but did not factor into the final decision.

GAME TWO: ALLAN HANCOCK - 4, LA MISSION - 13 | BOX SCORE

The Bulldogs fell behind early in the nightcap and faced a 10 run deficit after the top of the second closed. Coach Maumausolo's squad attempted to rattle off a comeback in the bottom of the second with a four-run spark. Solorio drove the first one in after a ground ball, while Coria followed in the next at-bat with an RBI single down the left field line. Munoz tacked on another by plating another after a single shot back to the pitcher. X. Glidewell closed the scoring stint with a bases-loaded walk that added one tally to bring the Bulldogs within six, but LA Mission managed to force the run rule after tacking on three more runs.

Munoz (7-6) was charged with the loss in the circle after working for the complete game. She sat down two batters but surrendered 12 earned runs after scattering 16 hits through five innings.
