No. 8 Football Extends Streak to Three in 49-14 Rout of Modesto

Modesto, Calif. - Sophomore running back Caleb Ramseur chalked up a pair of touchdowns as the Butte football team extended its winning streak to three games in a 49-14 rout of Modesto on Saturday evening.

Ramseur put the team on the board first in the opening quarter on a one-yard run before repeating the same score in the third quarter. The first quarter was closed out with just seconds remaining on sophomore DJ Jackson's first touchdown of the season on a 46-yard reception from sophomore Tanner Hughes.

On the day, Hughes went 9-of-13 for 204 yards and two touchdowns. He added another rushing touchdown late in the game to start the fourth quarter. Ramseur led the backfield with 79 yards, while freshman Christian Vaughn also earned his first score of the season and racked up 70 yards.

Jackson and sophomore Logan Blair were Hughes' two targets for touchdowns with Blair counting a 43-yard reception to close out the third quarter. Freshman Tre Patterson also got in on the action late, scoring on a 20-yard reception from freshman Rieger Sayre. With limited minutes, Sayre went 2-of-3 for 27 yards. Sophomore Jailen Hammer, freshman Deremy Stubbs, Jackson, and Blair all counted games with 40-plus reception yards.

Defensively, the trio of sophomores defensive lineman Thomas Lane and outside linebacker Elijah O'Neal and freshman linebacker Connor Hogan forced nine tackles for loss for a total of 40 yards. Lane earned six total tackles - three solo - with two tackles for loss for 12 yards and a forced fumble. O'Neal counted five tackles with three sacks for 16 yards, and Hogan earned five solo tackles with four being for loss for a total of 12 yards. Overall, freshman Gabe Foster and Lane each led the team with six tackles each. 

Sophomore punter Dante Jackson posted impressive numbers, averaging 44.3 yards per punt over three attempts. 

No. 8 Butte (3-1) will get its next big test when it heads to No. 2 San Mateo on Saturday, Oct. 1 to wrap up non-conference competition. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
