Third Quarter Push Gives MSJC Women Win Over Chaffey

The MSJC women's basketball team led by 14 points at the half on Saturday and then out scored visiting Chaffey 27-1 in the third quarter to blow the game open and come away with a 77-43 Inland Empire Athletic Conference win.

The Eagles took command of the game after the first three minutes, as they built a lead of 23-13 after the first period.  MSJC fought off a poor shooting second quarter to lead at the half 39-25.  The third period though was all Eagles as the 27-1 outburst put the game out of reach.  Deja Blue, Kiana Castello, and Mariah Sanchez helped the Eagles open up the lead as they combined for 20 of the Eagles 27 third quarter points.  

Blue finished her afternoon with a game high 17 points as she also dished out a game best 8 assists and pulled in 9 rebounds.  Castello came off the bench to score 14 in the contest, while Sanchez had 12 off the bench all during the third quarter run.  De'Adra Ross recorded a double double as she scored 12 points and grabbed a game high 13 rebounds, she was a perfect 6 for 6 from the field.  Keiara Barton had a strong first half as she finished the night with 8 points and despite a slow offensive game Haylei Janssens pulled in 10 boards.

The win give MSJC an overall record of 23-2, they are now 10-0 in IEAC games, Chaffey fell to 11-14 on the season and 6-4 in conference.

The Eagles play just once this week as they travel to Palm Desert to take on College of the Desert Wednesday night.  The game on Wednesday is set to tip-off at 5 pm with a men's game to follow at 7.
