Roadrunners Fall in Extra Innings Heartbreaker

Bakersfield, Calif. - Despite a two-run bomb for freshman Alexis Detwiler, the No. 2 Butte softball team fell 3-2 to Santa Ana in nine innings on Friday evening.

Detwiler hit her 10th home run of the season to give the Roadrunners a 2-1 edge after one complete. Butte held the one-run lead going into the final frame, but an error led to the game being knotted at two all.

Freshman Ashley Carbah and Isabelle Hernandez counted a pair of important grabs on defense to keep the Roadrunners in the game, but Butte was unable to overcome a RBI-single in the ninth by Santa Ana.

Four Roadrunners counted multi-hit games, led by Detwiler. Freshman Dylan Gonzalez, Hayley Sites, and Maggie Smith all tallied a pair of singles each.

Freshman Savannah Wahl (21-2) was charged with the loss after a complete-game outing. She allowed two earned runs while striking out five in the circle.

The Roadrunners (43-2) will take on the NorCal No. 4 seed San Jose City College on Friday, May 20 at 2 p.m. at North High School in the consolation bracket.
