Roadrunners Cage Cougars in Friday Twinbill

Oroville, Calif. - The Butte baseball team picked up a pair of wins over Lassen, 8-3 and 7-6, in a Friday twinbill to extend the team's winning streak to 13.

In game one, sophomore Ryan McCarthy started things off for Butte with a first-pitch two-run homer in the opening frame before sophomore Jake Agarwal tacked on a couple more runs in the third with his two-run long ball. Lassen chalked up a pair of runs of its own before the Roadrunners added four insurance runs in the bottom half of the eighth.

Agarwal posted a 2-for-5 outing with three RBI, while sophomore Landon Gomes also tallied a multi-hit outing, going 2-for-4 with a run. 

Sophomore Carson Seeman (4-0) remained perfect on the hill, tossing seven complete with sophomore Kyle Kucich earning his third save of the season.

In the second game, the Roadrunners made things more interesting. Lassen took the early 2-0 lead behind a home run, but Butte quickly answered in the bottom of the second with a sophomore Danelle Daniels homer and RBI from sophomore Aidan Moore and Agarwal. Butte tacked on another three runs through six complete, but Lassen knotted the contest up at six in the top of the seventh. Heading into the final inning, McCarthy led things off with a single. Seeman bunted Gomes, who came into the game to run for McCarthy, to second before sophomore Evan Stauch batted Gomes in for the walkoff win.

Agarwal went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, while McCarthy, Moore, and freshman Carter Lyons all earned a pair of hits apiece. 

Sophomore Jaeden Fraley earned his first win of the year on the mound, coming in relief and throwing 0.1 innings. Freshman Hunter Timothy was the starting pitcher, throwing 6.1 innings with six strikeouts. Sophomore Caleb Schaeffer threw 2.1 scoreless innings in relief, scattering a pair of hits and fanning a pair.

Butte (17-2, 5-0) returns to action on Friday, Mar. 24, heading to Feather River for a single contest beginning at 1 p.m.
