#5 Chargers Come From Behind to Remain Perfect in OEC Play

CYPRESS, CA- The Cypress Women's volleyball team (18-1, 10-0 OEC) took down the visiting Golden West Rustlers (11-5, 5-4 OEC) in a nail biting 5 set match (25-18, 24-26, 22-25, 25-17, 15-11) on Friday night.

Tainea Allen was the star of the night for the Chargers as she led the team with 16 kills and 41 attempts. Rachel Gonzales was second on the team in both kills (15) and digs (14). Mikayla Kadowaki set the Chargers up with 20 assists along with Nicaylah Iamaleava (18) and Vanila Pulu-Suliafu (17). Libero, Zoe Munn, led the team with 29 digs and three aces.

Cypress began set number one with a huge lead of 14-6, led by Zoe Munn who had six serves while notching two aces. They continued their throughout the set when Nicaylah Iamaleava assisted Tainea Allen's kill giving the Chargers the set win, 25-18. In set number two the Chargers struggled to maintain their rhythm as the Rustlers took a huge lead early on, 10-3. Cypress began to regain momentum as Rachel Gonzales shined with three kills and one block taking back the lead, 17-16. Ultimately, it was Golden West who came out on top taking set number two, 26-24.

As both teams were fired up to take set number three, Golden West got out to a lead, 13-9. The Chargers trailed by four the entire set until they were sparked by a huge ace from Vanila Pulu-Suliafu and a kill by Alexis Flores. The set was close but Golden West came out on top taking set three, 25-22. Cypress with their backs against the wall, amped up their tempo and held the lead throughout set four. Chargers took the set 25-17 as Amanda Risch came flying in with a thunderous kill to end the set. With the match tied up 2-2, both teams were hungry to close out the victory. As the Chargers and Rustlers went back a forth on every point, it was Vanila Pulu-Suliafu who scored the final point of the match, 15-11.

UP NEXT: Chargers will take on inter-district rival, Fullerton College, on Wednesday (10/27). The match will begin at 6pm.
