Baseball Falls in Extra Innings at Ventura

VENTURA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College baseball program fell in heartbreaking fashion after suffering an 11-10 loss at Ventura College on Thursday afternoon after 10 innings of action. | BOX SCORE

The Bulldogs (13-12, 5-9 WSC) got on the board first after Kalub Ramirez drove one runner home on a fielder's choice in the third. A two-run homer from Parker Haskell extended the lead just two innings later before the Pirates (11-13, 6-5 WSC) were able to place their first tally on the board in the bottom of the fifth. Hancock extended the lead with four runs in the sixth after a pair of bases-loaded walks and a single from Joey Freitas that scored two, but VC responded with another lone run in the same frame.

Jacob Steels drove in one run in the seventh before a three-run string for Ventura in the same frame and a sacrifice fly in the eighth cut the difference to just two after eight. The lead was extended once more after Zach Martinez and Ramirez each plated one runner in the ninth, but the Pirates were able to knot the score in regulation with a four-run rally. Ventura secured the victory with a walk-off single in the tenth.

Caelan Dalman had a productive day in the box with a 2-for-2 showing and tacked on three runs. Haskell recorded his fifth dinger of the season while tallying three RBIs, while Ramirez and Freitas chipped in with two RBIs apiece.

Vance Serrano was charged with the loss after surrendering one hit and one earned run through 0.2 innings. Nate Wenzel earned his eighth start of the season but did not factor into the final decision. He struck out four batters and allowed two earned runs after scattering six hits through six innings. Lucas Earle, Ricardo Rodriguez, and Bradley Waite also made brief appearances on the bump.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, March 26th, for the final contest of the three-game series with Ventura. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 PM on John Osborne Field.
