The Tartars on a two game winning streak as they take down Santa Monica College 12-0

Compton, CA-

The Compton College Tartars football team beat a talented Santa Monica College Corsair football squad to a score of 12-0.

The Tartars culture is beginning to shift as the football team has now won two games in a row. The Tartars defense showed up in a major way as they shut out the Corsairs. Anytime the Corsairs would begin to move the ball the Tartars defense would show great resiliency and produce a big play to stall the drive. The defense was stingy all night long and they played with great passion throughout the course of the game.

The Tartars offense would strike first to put points on the board as Freshman Quarterback Titan Widjaja would rifle a 15-yard touchdown pass to team leading receiver Malachi Betters. At the end of the first quarter the Tartars led 6-0. As the second quarter began the Corsairs seemed poised to respond, however after obtaining a first down on their drive, the second pass from the Corsairs quarterback Forrest Brock, would be intercepted and returned for a 31-yard Tartar touchdown by Robert Jones. Jones has shown a knack for being around the ball this season, as that is his second interception so far this year. The score would go into the half at 12-0 Tartars lead that would later go on to be the final score.

The second half was a physical defensive dominance by the Tartars. The Tartars defense was a total group effort, and was highlighted by Sophomore leader PJ Schuster who led the team with 10 tackles and three tackles for losses. Defensive back Solomon Buchanan was the leader for the secondary as he broke up three passes and had a game defying interception that he returned for 71 yards.

To finish the game and run out the clock the Tartars established their running game and turned to Raphael Ekechi who had a season of 99 yards for the game. The Tartars will look to continue their winning streak as they travel to West LA college. Please come out and support the Tartars football team.
