BASEBALL: UNABLE TO GET IT DONE

BASEBALL: UNABLE TO GET IT DONE

The Hornets had a hard time scoring runs against visiting Golden West College on Monday losing to the Rustlers 5-1.

It was the first of a three-game Orange Empire Conference series to play out this week. The game was originally supposed to be played on Tuesday, March 10th, but the head coaches for both squads agreed to move the game up a day to Monday due to the impending rain. The stormy forecast for the week may postpone the two remaining games.

Hot off their series-win over Orange Coast College, Golden West (11-10 overall, 3-1 conference) scored two runs in the 3rd inning. Justin Simpson got it started with a triple that went down the right field line scoring Noah Amenta. Seth Nelson grounded out to first base giving Simpson enough time to come home.

GWC added another run in the 6th when Jesse Fonteboa grounded out to the short stop allowing Enrique Bennett to come in from third.

With two outs, Julian Tellez got on base knocking a single to the left side. He was able to get to second base on a throwing error. With a man in scoring position, Jack Janes took advantage ripping a single to right field scoring Tellez.

Down 3-1, the Hornets hopes of getting back in the game were dashed when the Rustlers scored unanswered runs in the 7th and 8th innings.

Taylor Pendley took the loss for FC going 6 innings with 8 runs against, 2 walks, 3 K's, and 4 earned runs. Steven Loera came in to toss 2.1 innings with 3 hits against, 1 walk, 2 K's, and 1 earned run.

Jack Janes had 3 hits on the day for Fullerton with a walk and RBI. Tony Accordino (double), Sawyer Chesley (double), and Marco Malerba all had a hit each.

Up Next: Fullerton (5-13-1 overall, 0-4 conference) will play at Golden West College for game two of the three-game series on Wednesday, March 11th at 3:00 pm.
