Softball Goes the Distance in Doubleheader Sweep over Ohlone

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College softball team registered five home runs on Tuesday afternoon en route to a two-game sweep over Ohlone College in a non-conference clash at the AHC Softball Field. The Bulldogs now hold an overall record of 14-9 on the season while Ohlone falls to 9-21.

Lisette Coria ended the day with an impressive 5-for-6 showing at the plate while working towards a team-high batting average of .833. Briana Munoz also had a day at the plate after recording six RBIs and two home runs, followed by five RBIs and a 3-for-7 finish by Mya Mendoza.

Up next for Coach Maumausolo's squad is a doubleheader against Western State Conference rival, Cuesta College, on Thursday afternoon. Both games will be played in San Luis Obispo at the Cuesta Softball Field, with game one set to begin at 1 PM.

GAME ONE: AHC 9, OHLONE 3 | BOX SCORE

Mendoza put the Bulldogs ahead early in game one after launching a three-run shot over the left field fence in the opening inning. Both sides scored in the second as the Renegades benefited from a bases-loaded walk before AHC rattled off a four-run rally. Mendoza sparked the scoring frenzy, also with a bases-loaded walk, before Munoz used a single up the middle to plate two and Madison Gamble registered a sacrifice fly to drive in one. Ohlone managed to plate a pair in the fourth, but Gamble answered in the next inning with a double to left center that brought one runner home. Alexia Juarez-Wilhite recorded the final run of the inning after going the distance for her first career home run.

Munoz earned both the start and the win after tossing a complete seven-innings. She struck out nine batters while surrendering three earned runs on 10 hits.

GAME TWO: AHC 9, OHLONE 3 | BOX SCORE

Hancock jumped out to an early lead in game two after posting seven runs through the first two frames. Abigail Salazar got things started with her first homer of the year in the first at-bat of the game. Gamble, Delayna Quezada, and Xchelle Glidewell also tallied RBIs before the opening inning came to a close. The home squad added three more runs in the second frame with a double by Mendoza that scored one before Munoz homered to clear the bases. Ohlone got on the board in the fourth with an RBI double before also plating one run in the fifth and another in the sixth. Munoz ended the scoring cycle for both sides in the bottom of the sixth with another two-run home run over the left field fence.

Danica Black collected her fourth win of the season after a complete seven-inning showing. She sat down four batters and was charged with two earned runs after scattering seven hits.
