The United Soccer Coaches Organization has named SCC women's soccer player Ashley Roskelly National Player of the Year for Junior College Women - Division 3.
The announcement follows Santiago Canyon College (SCC) Women's Soccer team's second consecutive-year win of the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Women's Soccer State Championship earlier this month. Ashley was team captain for both the 2018 and 2019 Back-to-Back State Championship seasons, with nine goals and seven assists in the 2019 season.
As the Hawks 2019 season progressed, the more influential Ashley became, scoring or creating a goal in 10 of the last 13 games. When it mattered most, Ashley continued to rise to the occasion. Ashley scored the winner in the 2nd round of Regional Play-offs, the State Semi-Final, as well as scoring in the State Final.
"In soccer, stats do not always give the complete picture," said head coach Ian Woodhead. "Nine goals and seven assists from a holding-midfield position is a fine achievement. But more important is Ashley's leadership on and off the field. Her actions and words make her a worthy choice for this prestigious award."
Ashley is the first Hawk since Leslie Bryant in 2009 to be named "National Player of the Year."
