(Cypress, CA) After starting the season with the second-longest winning streak in three years, Mt. SAC Softball Team was edged by host Cypress College, 2-1, and lost its first game Thursday (Feb. 27).

The Chargers held the Mounties, who have been averaging 11 runs and 13 hits per game this season, to only one hit and one run over seven innings.

Mt. SAC's lone run came in the first inning, as center fielder Nicole Siess opened the game with a walk, advanced to second on a fly out, stole third and came home on a throwing error by the Chargers' catcher.

Leading 1-0, sophomore designated player Bianca Chavez got the only hit for the Mounties, a single to center in the second inning. The Mounties left runners in scoring position in the second inning and loaded the bases in the third, but failed to score.

Cypress (10-0) relief pitcher Janea Brannen retired the final 13 batters of the game for the win.

The Mounties host Palomar and Santiago Canyon Saturday (Feb. 29) at noon and 4:00 pm, respectively for a pair of non-conference games.
