OVER-CHARGED

The FC baseball team wrapped up the three-game series with Cypress College at home Saturday falling to the Chargers 5-4.

Cypress took the Orange Empire series winning all three games 7-6, 6-4, and 5-4 in close fashion. Fullerton now has an overall record of 15-13 with an OEC record of 3-6, while Cypress moves to 19-5 overall and 7-2 in conference.

The Chargers got two across in the first inning on Dean Toigo's single to right field scoring Luke Honikel.  Aaron Perez then singled up the middle plating Toigo.

Fullerton cut the deficit in half scoring a run in the bottom of the first when Kaipo Haole came across in a sliding effort from third on a wild pitch.

Cypress scored two runs in the second taking a 4-1 lead on Hornet errors allowing Honikel and Luca Arenado to come home.

The Hornets made it 4-2 cutting the lead in half again on Tank Espalin's sacrifice fly to center giving Ryan Kirk the opportunity to dart home.

Toigo scored from third base on a wild pitch putting Cypress up 5-2 in the fifth inning.

In the bottom of the sixth, Fullerton dropped two runs on the Chargers getting within a run at 5-4. Ryan Kirk energized the Hornets with a leadoff home run that soared over the left field ivy. With the bases loaded, Haku Dudoit scored from third on a Cypress fielding error.

With the game on the line in the bottom of the ninth, Isaiah Marquez got on base knocking a single up the middle. Niko Santamaria got on hitting a single near the left field line, but the FC victory was not in the cards as the team went down swinging.
