COD Softball wins fourth straight, sweeps Vaqueros, 5-2 & 9-4

COD (11-10) have won 6 of their last 7 games and moved back to above .500 for the season, as the Roadrunners received some timely hitting and dynamic defense, sweeping the Glendale Vaqueros (6-20-1), 5-2 and 9-4.

The Roadrunners first played against Glendale in 1991 and have an overall record of 11-6 against the Vaqueros and a 4-3 record at home.

Sophomore catcher Beyonce Mondragon (Thermal Coachella Valley) went 4 for 8 over the course of the double header, grabbing 2 runs and a run batted in and sophomore center fielder Annabelle Amador (Indio Shadow Hills) 2 for 3 in game one, collecting a run and an RBI in the 5-2 win. Sophomore short stop Kalyn Lopez (Palm Desert H.S.) went 5 for 8 with four runs scored and two RBIs in the double header and freshman third baseman Kasandra Piccirilli (Palm Springs H.S.) went 2 for 3 with a run scored in game one. Freshman right handed starting pitcher Paula Martinez (Thermal Coachella Valley) tossed a complete game for her fifth win of the season, grabbing five strike outs. Sophomore second baseman Porschea Miranda (Rancho Mirage H.S.) went a perfect 3 for 3 in game two, scoring a run and bringing in three RBI's and sophomore right handed starting pitcher Amaya Magana (La Quinta H.S.) tossed a complete game for her fourth win of the season.

The next game for Desert will be played on Wednesday, April 5th at 2p against the Cerro Coso Coyotes of Ridgecrest. The Roadrunners first played against Cerro Coso in 1981 and have an overall record of 13-0 against the Coyotes and an 8-0 record at home.
