Riverside Takes Two to Cap Seven-Game Home Stand

The Riverside City College softball team completed a seven-game home stand on Thursday night as they hosted the Southwestern College Jaguar for a doubleheader. Both games featured high flying offense featuring 31 total runs, but the Tigers were able to run away with two victories.

GAME ONE

Riverside jumped out to an early lead in the first inning with freshman center fielder Tessah Black barreling a double to get things going. She came around to score on an RBI single to center field from freshman first baseman Alicia Fitzgerald. Freshman left fielder Alexa View, who reached on a walk, touched home two batters later on a sacrifice ground out from freshman third baseman Cheyanna Becerra leading to a 2-0 advantage.

However, the Jaguars tagged the Tigers for four runs the ensuing frame to take a 4-2 lead. The lead did not last long as Becerra clutched up to tie the game in the following half with a two out, two-RBI double to bring the score to four-all.

Sophomore reliever Carrah Van Houten. Who entered in the top of the second inning, kept the Jaguars from scoring the following two innings, but was tagged for three runs in the top of the fifth inning handing Southwestern a 7-4 advantage.

Nevertheless, Riverside remained true to their patient approach and loaded the bases up with nobody out in the bottom of the fifth. Freshman pinch hitter Lea Aldana, freshman catcher Julianna Garcia and freshman second baseman Sarah Franco-Colis drew three consecutive walks to tie the contest up at 7-7.

Freshman shortstop Sophia Franco-Colis gave the Tigers the lead in the bottom of the sixth by barreling a double, scoring freshman pinch runner Lelani Rosales, leading to a 8-7 win.

GAME TWO

The second showdown was an offensive melee as the Tigers banged out 15 hits and 10 runs.

Riverside plated five runs in the first inning with sophomore catcher Alicia Rivera connected for a two-RBI double, scoring freshman left fielder Alexa View and Black. Becerra followed with a RBI infield single, backed by a two RBI double from So. Franco-Colis.

The Tigers added five more runs in the fourth and fifth innings combined highlighted by a three-run bomb from Fitzgerald. It was her second homerun in as many games.

Lara tossed a complete game as she struck out three and scattered six runs on 12 hits leading to her fourth win of the season.
