Irvine Valley's baseball team got a big performance from freshman left fielder Jack Haggerty in a 8-2 win at Compton in a nonconference game on Saturday afternoon.
Haggerty, batting second in the IVC lineup, went 4 for 4 with a walk and five RBI.
And he also added three stolen bases. Haggerty is hitting .432 with five extra base hits and 11 RBI on the year.
Irvine Valley won its fifth straight game and improved its record to 6-3 overall. In the last five victories, IVC has out-scored oppoentns, 39-15.
Haggerty wasn't the only star for the Lasers Saturday at Compton.
The Lasers finished with 13 hits. Freshman right fielder Bradley Wilkison went 2 for 4 with a walk and two runs and also had three stolen bases.
And sophomore center fielder Joey Lapolla also had two hits with a triple, going 2 for 5 with a run scored and one RBI.
And freshman designated hitter George Enriquez contributed a hit and two RBI for Irvine Valley.
The Lasers received a strong start on the mound from freshman right-hander Sammy Murphy.
He picked up his second win of the year, going seven innings and allowing two runs on eight hits with three walks and four strikeouts.
Freshman righty Ryan Barlow followed with a scoreless inning, and freshman righty Austin Chapman pitched a scoreless ninth inning with a strikeout.
Irvine Valley scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning to break things open and went up, 6-1, after the top of the sixth.
Haggerty and Enriquez each had two-run singles in the fourth to get the Lasers off and running.
Irvine Valley plays again next Tuesday, traveling to San Diego Mesa for a 2 p.m. start
