Comets clinch eighth consecutive PCAC title

SAN MARCOS, CA (4/13/2022) -- No. 6 Palomar College clinched its eighth consecutive Pacific Coast Athletic Conference title on Wednesday as they sailed past the Southwestern College Jaguars 11-1 in five innings.

The Comets immediately got the ball rolling as they scored four runs in the bottom of the first. A double by Samarah Martinez, a single by Allyson Amato followed by a stolen base then two a two-run double for Taylor Harrison. She then stole third and Alexia Terrazas doubled to bring Harrison home. Then Malachy Russell-Millen singled to score Terrazas for the fourth run of the game. Palomar went on to score three more in the third and put the nail in the Jaguar's coffin with four more in the fourth to secure the potential run rule.

Harrison was a perfect 3-3 on the day as she recorded four RBI and three runs. She picked up her third triple this season as every hit was an extra-base hit. Amato was also 3-3 on the day with a double and two RBI.

India Caldwell put on an outstanding performance in the circle as she threw roughly 20 pitches in four innings as the Comet defense helped keep her perfect. She finished the day allowing just one run on two hits and one strikeout.

The victory wrapped up the conference title for the Comets, their 39th title overall. Through nine conference games this season, the Comets have been a dominant force. Losing just one game to Imperial Valley College 1-0 earlier in the season, Palomar bounced back in their second doubleheader. The Comets took both games in El Centro scoring eight runs in the 13th and then eight runs in game two to maintain atop the conference standings.

Palomar moves to 27-5 overall and 8-1 in PCAC play. The Comets and Jaguars will face one another again on Friday for a doubleheader in Chula Vista. The first game is scheduled for 12 p.m. with the second game beginning roughly 20 minutes following game one.
