KNIGHTS SWEPT BY FEATHER RIVER IN GVC OPENING DH

QUINCY, Calif. – The Shasta College softball team was swept by Feather River College 9-0 and 10-2 in its Golden Valley Conference opening doubleheader on Friday.

Feather River 9, Shasta 0 (5)
The Golden Eagles' Caitlyn James threw a five-inning perfect game against the Knights, striking out nine in the mercy-rule shortened contest. Kaitlyn Galvin hit a home run in the win for Feather River. Shasta pitcher Whitney Carnes struck out one, walked two and gave up nine earned runs on 10 hits in four innings to take the loss.

The Knights surrendered five runs in the bottom of the first but scored twice in the second on Khloe Forrister's two-run double, plating Madeline Nightingale and Autumn Campbell. Feather River's Quincey Love hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the second and Galvin's three-run triple stretched the lead in the fourth. Autumn Giannini, McKenzy Fernandes, Campbell, Nightingale each had singles to go with Forrister's double. Kaylie McDaniel struck out three and gave up 10 earned runs on 13 hits in four innings.

Shasta (0-2 GVC, 5-9) hosts College of the Redwoods Friday for a doubleheader at noon and 2 p.m. and hosts Butte College in a doubleheader Saturday at noon and 2 p.m.
