OJAI – Another solid City College of San Francisco women's tennis season came to a close following an impressive weekend of play at the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships.

Early round matches were held in Ventura with state quarterfinal matches and above played at the Ojai Valley Athletic Club in Ojai.

Head coach Mary Graber led a contingent of six CCSF qualifiers to the state championships, including three singles entries and three doubles teams.

Leading the way for the Rams was freshman Ariel Xu at the state tournament. Xu, CCSF's No. 1 singles player, won three matches on her way to reaching the state championship quarterfinals.

After a first-round bye, Xu picked up victories over Nicole Lule of Rio Hondo (6-0, 6-0), Shellah Gabasan from Cypress (6-1, 6-0), and Talia Lieb of Ventura (6-4, 4-6, 6-2).

Her postseason run came to an end with a tough 6-2, 6-0 loss to Los Angeles Mission College's Anna Kynclova in the quarterfinals. Xu, who won the Coast Conference singles championship, was the lone representative from Northern California to advance to the state quarterfinals.

Xu also teamed with Christina Ling in doubles action and reached the Round of 32. After an opening-round bye, the duo defeated Daniella Padilla and Athena Wilson of Sacramento City by scores of 6-1, 6-3. But they were forced to withdraw from their next match due to injury, ending their season.

Other state championship qualifiers in singles action from the Rams included Ling and Alanna Hale.

Ling won her first-round match 6-1, 6-0 against Andrea Rodriguez from Rio Hondo but lost 6-1, 6-1 to Mane Sargsyan from Glendale. Hale dropped her opening match 6-3, 6-1 to Lydia Jong from Mt. San Antonio.

In doubles, Hale and Amanda Kong teamed up as well as Anh Duong and Bernice Zhu.

Hale and Kong were first-round winners over Leila Adel and Madeline Satrya from San Diego City (6-2, 6-0) and suffered a 6-0, 6-0 loss to Davina Escalante and Carla Montaruli of American River in Round 2.

Duong/Zhu defeated Addysen Walls and Therese Sherwood of Mt. San Jacinto 6-2, 6-0 before falling 6-4, 6-0 to Ellie Wingo and Ashley Villarta from College of the Canyons in the second round.
