Vaqueros Dominate at LA Harbor for Second Straight Win

WILMINGTON, Calif. – LA Harbor took an early 7-3 lead over the SBCC football team on a 75-yard bomb in the first quarter. Then, the Vaqueros scored 40 unanswered, putting together their most dominant effort through three games this season in a 43-7 blow out on theh road.

SBCC (2-1) pounded away with the run game all day, outrushing LA Harbor (2-2) 285 to -2. As a team, the Vaqueros outgained LA 419-to-228. Both Jerry Martin (121 yards) and Omari Taylor (104) went for over 100 yards and a touchdown. Mekhi Norfleet averaged a team-high 7.6 yards per carry for his 68 ground yards.

The Vaqueros only needed to complete eight passes, going 8-of-18 between four quarterbacks. Carson Doyle hit tight end Ben Ortiz for a 37-yard score in the third quarter for SBCC's only passing touchdown. Receiver Joshua Brown led the way  with two receptions for 54 yards.

Defensively, the Vaqueros forced four turnovers, had 13 tackles for a loss, five sacks, seven pass breakups and a safety. Defensive backs Berry Buxton III and Jack Kilpatrick both had interceptions. Linebackers Tyler Haughney and Zach Mahan forced fumbles. 

Defensive lineman Jake Lambden was one of six Vaqueros with at least four takcles for a loss, leading the way with six. He and fellow d-lineman Devan Tursini-White finished with two sacks apiece.

Kicker Jorge Figueroa went 2-of-3 on field goals and made all five extra point attempts.

Following the win, the Vaqueros will have another road outing at Glendale next Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
