MSJC Baseball Closes Out Season on Seven Game Win Streak

The MSJC baseball team wrapped up their season this past week with a four game sweep of Barstow College to close out the year on a seven game winning streak.

On Tuesday the Eagles traveled to Barstow and came away with an 11-1 win in the series opener.  Derek Ryan threw a complete game allowing just one run on 5 hits while striking out 9 to earn his 6th win of the season.  Ryan Grinnals and Nolan Smith both had three hits in the win, Grinnals had two RBIs and Smith added one.  Jaden Jones and Thomas Napolitano both homered in the game with Napolitano driving in a game high 3 runs.  The Eagles out hit the Vikings on the day 17-5.

Thursday the two teams played a doubleheader in San Jacinto.  In game one of the day the Eagles scored 3 runs in the 2nd, 4th, and 5th innings on their way to a 9-1 win.  Phoenix Sommay had 3 hits including a triple and a double with 3 RBIs to lead the way.  DJ Graham also had 3 hits including a triple for MSJC.  Tyler Gump earned the pitching victory as he went 4 strong innings of the seven inning game allowing just one run on one hit and striking out 7.

MSJC honored their 10 sophomore between games of the doubleheader, celebrating their contributions to the program over the past two seasons.

When the second game started Thursday the Eagle bats exploded to score in all but two innings on their way to a 26-0 win.  Smith and Jones both homered this time as MSJC pounded out 10 extra base hits in the contest.  Smith and Michael Downtain both drove in four runs a piece while Jones and Garrett Teunissen both had 3 RBIs.  Robert Jacobsen and Brody Brown also joined in as they each drove in 2 runs.  Ethan Van Scoy threw six shut out innings to earn the victory on the mound as he allowed just 3 hits while striking out 7 and allowing 0 walks.  Josh Ochoa and Brock Robarts combined to throw the final 3 innings.

In Friday's season finale, the Eagles fell behind 3-2 after the first inning, but rallied back to win 12-5 in Barstow.  Smith hit his second homerun of the series and Jacobsen also had round tripper.  Nico Reyes had a team high 3 RBIs in the win with Jacobsen and Andre Torres each driving in two runs on the day.  Sommay hit his 12th triple of the year for the Eagles.

The Eagles finished the season with an overall record of 22-17-1, they went 13-11 in Inland Empire Athletic Conference play.
