The 18th-ranked Reedley College football team rallied from a one-point halftime deficit to defeat the Shasta College Knights 47-28 Saturday night in Redding.

Next up for head coach Rob Hartenfels' Tigers will be Saturday's home opener (played at Orange Cove High School's Titan Stadium because of the ongoing construction at Reedley's Sal Gonzalez Field) with the Chabot College Gladiators. Chabot opened with a 41-24 home win over the College of the Siskiyous. Kickoff time is set for 1 p.m.

Chabot quarterback Kekoa Turangan completed 31 of 41 passes to an amazing 15 different receivers and two touchdowns.

In Redding, the Tigers trailed 21-20 at halftime but roared back and scored the game's final 20 points. Reedley took the lead for good with 3:15 left in the third quarter on a 1-yard plunge by quarterback Joshua Magana, who finished the day with 234 passing yards and three touchdowns.

T'Ky Posey ran for 108 yards and two scores. One of Magana's favorite targets was freshman receiver Andrew Dowie, who caught six passes for 126 yards. Shemar Kirk, who caught seven passes for 129 yards and two first half touchdowns, was ejected from the game in the final quarter for unsportsmanlike conduct and will probably miss the Chabot game, according to the coach.

'We started a lot of freshman on defense and they did a great job," said Hartenfels. Shamar Hawkins was in on 11 tackles (eight unassisted) while Michael Jordan had two tackles for a loss. Nijah Edwards intercepted a Shasta pass.

The Tigers remained 18th in this week's JC Athletic Bureau poll but were surpassed by the College of the Sequoias, who upset Butte College on Saturday.

"Chabot will throw the ball," said Hartenfels. "It will be a good home opener."
