Bakersfield Drops Doubleheader to Mt. SAC and Sierra

BAKERSFIELD, CA- Renegade softball is back in full swing for Opening Weekend. The Bakersfield College softball team played a double header at the Dean and Adah Gay Sports Complex on Friday afternoon and evening while also hosting three other teams. BC lost both games between the visiting Mt. San Antonio Mounties and the Sierra College Wolverines.

In game one, Renegades brought in two runs at the bottom of the second. Alyssa Miller singled on a line drive to right field and brought home Rylee Price. Destiny Cuellar gave BC a nice 2-0 by hitting a single on a hard ground ball shortstop and Jayden Beam scored.

Unfortunately, the Mounties tied the game up at in the top of the seventh inning. Two extra innings would end the game by Mt. SAC by scoring from a runoff double at the top of the ninth. Bakersfield was unable to score another run. Talia Nielson took the loss, she had a massive night with 18 strikeouts, ten hits and three runs.

In game two, Bakersfield fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 11-3 loss to Sierra who scored eight runs in the first inning alone. BC was able to get in a run in the first and another at the bottom of the second but didn't score their third run until the final inning of play (5th) to keep the game alive. 

Kayden Smith took the loss, with three strike outs while teammate Marissa Campos went 2-for-3 at the plate. 

The Renegades drop to 0-2 at the start of the season. Tomorrow they host San Mateo College at 2:30pm to wrap up opening weekend.
